Boca Raton regulates docks and other mooring facilities under Chapter 22, Article III of the City Code. The dock rules below come from Sec. 22-58. Boat lift placement is reviewed by the City under the same chapter and your zoning, and we confirm it for your address before design.
How to read the table below
| Your situation | The rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Dock reach on canals under 100 ft wide | Up to 6 ft into the waterway | Measured without counting the dock pilings. |
| Dock reach on canals 100 ft or wider | Up to 8 ft into the waterway | Also measured without the pilings. |
| Space from your neighbors | 10 ft from the side property line | The dock must stay at least 10 ft from the neighboring lot. |
| Ladders | At least 1; 2 if the dock is over 50 ft | Each ladder reaches 2 ft below mean low water. |
| Docks over 50 ft in total length | Water and power along the dock | One hose bib and one electrical outlet for every 50 ft of dock. |
| The Boca Raton Inlet | No docks | The only exception is a passenger loading dock approved by the Army Corps and the City Council. |
| Boat lifts | Reviewed by the City for your address | Lift placement is reviewed under the City’s marine structures code and zoning. We confirm the exact limits before we design. |
Boca Raton's code sets clear dock limits, and the City reviews lift placement for each property. We confirm the lift, dock and boat layout with the City before we order equipment, so the lift you choose is the lift that gets permitted.
| Canal width | Max dock reach | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 60 ft | 6 ft | Dock pilings not counted |
| 80 ft | 6 ft | Dock pilings not counted |
| 100 ft | 8 ft | Dock pilings not counted |
| 150 ft | 8 ft | Dock pilings not counted |
Boat lift placement is confirmed with the City for each address.
Boca Raton reviewers look for these items on every lift plan. We put each one on paper during your consultation, so the design you approve is the design that gets permitted.
Waterfront frontage and side property lines.
The measured width, which sets the 6 or 8 ft dock limit.
Dock reach, not counting pilings.
10 ft from each neighboring lot.
Lift type, location and pilings, drawn to scale.
Vessel length and beam in the raised position.
Ladders, water and power where the dock requires them.
A waterfront project in Boca Raton may require approvals at the city, county, state and federal level, plus HOA or condominium sign-off where it applies. The path depends on your footprint and the environmental conditions at your shoreline. We map it before we quote, and we manage it through final inspection. The boat lift buyer FAQs explain each agency’s role.
Building, zoning, engineering and electrical approvals, as the project requires.
County review where your project requires it, depending on your site and shoreline.
Authorization or exemption verification. A state exemption does not cancel local permits.
Work in navigable waters can require Section 10 authorization. Some minor lifts qualify for a general permit.
A lift can have the capacity and still be the wrong physical or legal fit. We confirm projection, side lines, water depth and the permit path before we recommend equipment.
Family-owned and operated in South Florida.
In-house installation. No subcontractors, no hand-offs.
Every installation backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee.
We install Neptune Boat Lifts, built for saltwater.
The same four steps on every Boca Raton project, from the first site visit to the service calls that keep your lift running.
We review your boat, your waterfront, and the code for your address, then design the lift or dock around all three.
We prepare the plans and handle the permit path end to end, so nothing gets built before it is approved.
Our own in-house crew builds it. No subcontractors, no hand-offs.
Twice-yearly service keeps your lift running and your warranty records documented.
In Palm Beach County, seawall height and repair requirements can differ from city to city. We confirm the requirement that governs your Boca Raton address before we design a lift or dock that ties into the wall.
A new lift or dock does not automatically trigger a seawall upgrade. We check your wall’s condition and elevation while we are already on site, so there are no surprises after the permit is filed.
Up to 6 ft on canals and waterways under 100 ft wide, and up to 8 ft on those 100 ft or wider, not counting the dock pilings.
At least 10 ft from the adjacent property line.
Boca Raton reviews boat lift placement under its marine structures code and your zoning. We confirm the limits for your address with the City before we design, so there are no surprises at permitting.
